Ryan Erker is an attorney with years of experience working for and with nonprofit organizations. Ryan’s initial nonprofit work came as a Notre Dame student volunteer with Teamwork for Tomorrow, an after-school individual tutoring in partnership with the South Bend, Indiana Housing Authority that focused on literacy development for children between ages 8 and 12. Ryan graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a political science degree and obtained his law degree from Saint
Louis University.
Following graduation from Saint Louis University Law School, Ryan returned to Kansas City. He continued his nonprofit work as a volunteer member of the Drug and Alcoholism Council under United Community Services of Johnson County, Kansas for six years. During two terms as a council member, Ryan regularly reviewed grant applications from a variety of 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations such as school districts,
outreach projects, and charities. The annual grant review process included application analysis, program fidelity and operations assessment, budget review, management interview and discussion, and outcome determinations to synthesize a final allocation recommendation for alcohol tax funds collected by Johnson County and ten constituent cities.
Ryan’s legal work over the past eighteen years has included criminal defense and family litigation that developed critical courtroom and trial experience before transitioning to focus more on probate, trust administration, and business development. Ryan has worked with multiple organizations in Kansas and Missouri to establish corporations, comply with legal filing and organization elements, and maintain annual reporting requirements.
The passion, drive, and mission of Charity Playbook inspired Ryan to continue his work with nonprofits in a setting that utilizes his skill set to assist the philanthropies and nonprofit organizations that strengthen our communities. Ryan’s focus on establishment, organization, oversight, legal requirement tracking and compliance allows Charity Playbook clients to focus on their philanthropic strengths, minimize distractions, and maximize their impact.
